How Eden’s Home Blood Testing Process Works
1. Eden confirms your test: We advise whether you need a T1, T2 or T3 test and when it should be completed.
2. You place your order: Purchase your test through your Eden account or use a subscription plan that includes blood testing.

3. A practitioner visits you: A trained health professional collects a venous blood sample at your home or workplace.
​
4. Your sample goes to the laboratory: It is dispatched for analysis on the same day.

5. A specialist reviews your results: Your results are assessed alongside your medication and wider health information.

6. You receive your next steps: Your specialist discusses your results and any recommended changes with you. If your results indicate an urgent concern, Eden will contact you sooner.
Our Private Blood Test Options & Costs
Our private trans blood tests can be purchased on a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) basis, or you can choose a subscription plan that includes them. We also accept blood tests provided by your GP, if they include the information our specialists need. ​​
Different stages of hormone therapy require different levels of monitoring. Eden has developed three specialist blood tests to help monitor your hormones and wider health according to your individual circumstances.
T1 - COMPREHENSIVE INTAKE TEST
PAYG £165, £0 on Plus Plan
T1 is our most comprehensive test, which checks whether your liver and kidneys are working as they should. This is critical as different hormones can affect these organs. ​We screen for signs of diabetes and other metabolic conditions, and if detected, help you keep them under control. We also check whether your immune system is working as it should and that you have the right number of red blood cells. Low levels of red blood cells can make you feel tired. This is important because certain hormone medications can affect both your red blood cells and your immune system.

Lastly, this blood test measures the levels of all your current hormones, providing a baseline so we can monitor your clinical response to any prescribed hormone medications.​
T2 - MALE TO FEMALE MONITORING TEST

The T2 test helps us check your body’s response to the hormones you are taking. These tests measure whether your oestrogen level is within the clinically appropriate range for optimal feminising outcomes.

We also check your testosterone levels to ensure that they are being lowered by the oestrogen. If they aren’t, you may need additional medication.
Lastly, we monitor how your liver is functioning, as we know that in some people, oestrogen can affect its function.

T3 - FEMALE TO MALE MONITORING TEST

The T3 test helps us measure the amount of testosterone in your body and whether it’s at clinically correct levels for the best masculinising outcomes.
Testosterone can sometimes cause your body to produce too many red blood cells, and continuous monitoring ensures this does not happen.

If red blood cell levels are high, our team can help resolve it. Lastly, we monitor how your liver is functioning, as we know that in some people, testosterone can affect liver function.
Why Are Blood Tests Usually Needed Every 12 Weeks?
During the earlier stages of hormone therapy, Eden requires blood testing every 12 weeks. This allows specialists to assess whether your hormone levels are moving towards the appropriate range, whether your medication is being absorbed effectively and whether treatment is affecting other areas of your health.
Results can then inform any recommended changes to your medication or dosage. Once your hormone levels and wider health markers have remained stable, testing may reduce to an annual comprehensive review, depending on your individual circumstances and clinical advice.

The Critical Blood Panels We Test For
When you first start your medical transition with Eden New Life, and annually, we ask for our comprehensive Type 1 blood test. This initial blood test is very important to us as it gives us your ‘baseline’ results to compare all subsequent ones to. It also ensures that you do not have any undiagnosed conditions that would need treating before you start your medical transition.

The comprehensive test checks include:

Full Blood Count (FBC): This test measures the levels of your red and white blood cells. This is important because it tells us how your immune system is functioning and rules out conditions affecting your red blood cells, such as anaemia.

Urea & Electrolytes (U&Es) & Liver Function Tests (LFTs): These tests provide information on how your liver and kidneys are working. This is important as we know medications, including some gender-affirming medications, can negatively impact and thus cause damage to these organs.
​
Lipids and HbA1c: These tests provide vital information about your metabolic health and whether you have diabetes, are or are at risk of getting diabetes. It also tells us about your body fat levels.

Hormone Screen including FSH, LH, SHBG, Prolactin, Oestrogen and Testosterone: These hormone tests not only give us your baseline levels but also rule out other conditions that can cause levels to fall outside the normal range, such as tumours or intersex.

These tests help us understand how your body is responding to treatment and ensure your transition is safe and effective.
How Will I Get Blood Tests?

Every Eden New Life test includes the cost for a trained health practitioner to come to your home or workplace to take your blood sample from your arm and dispatch it to the lab the same day. Tests are normally fully completed within 10 days of ordering.

Eden uses venous samples because they provide the laboratory with a larger, usable sample and reduce the risk of an insufficient sample delaying your results.

A venous test (taken from a vein) provides a much larger, usable sample for the lab. We don’t use clinics either, so you don’t have to take time out of your day or pay for travel costs. Instead, an expertly trained health professional visits you at your home or workplace and, in a few minutes, takes the blood sample from your arm. Should you have experienced challenges with blood draws in the past, they can even bring specialist needles and equipment to ensure success.

Can I book an Eden blood test if I am not already a client?
If you are new to Eden, book an introductory chat so that the team can understand your needs, explain the services available and advise you on the appropriate next steps.

What happens after I order an Eden blood test?
Once you have ordered the test, a trained health practitioner will contact you to arrange a visit to your home or workplace. They will collect a venous blood sample and dispatch it to the laboratory on the same day.
​
Your results are then securely passed to an Eden specialist for review, normally within 10 days of ordering. Your specialist will discuss the results and any recommended next steps with you.

Why are private blood tests more convenient than asking my GP?
If your GP is supportive and will provide you with free blood tests, that is great! We’ll even provide you with a template letter so you can request the right test, and our specialists will check your results for no additional charge once you send them in. Having your GP test means they will also check your results, which may provide additional peace of mind.
You should be aware of the challenges of GP blood testing. However, you must request and schedule the test with your GP clinic yourself. If the GP can’t provide the test soon enough, it will delay your next prescription. Once the test is complete, you have to collect the results from your GP in the right (‘clinic’) format and pass them to us. If the test is incomplete (if they forgot some panels), you’ll have to organise a retest, which may take some weeks.
Eden cannot accept screenshots from the NHS App because they do not provide the complete, verifiable clinical report our specialists require.
So while GP tests can save you money, please be aware of these additional steps explained above that you’ll need to take in order to get your GP blood test results to us.

When is the best time in my cycle to take my blood test?
There is no fixed time that suits all. It depends on your health profile and medication, which is tracked by the Eden system. A team member reaches out to you via email and SMS every cycle to let you know when it's time to book a new test.

Do I pay the lab or Eden for the blood tests?
For your convenience, you can choose a blood-inclusive Eden subscription plan that spreads the cost over the year. If you prefer to pay-as-you-go (PAYG) for your private trans blood tests, you can do so quickly in your account on the Eden website. Eden pays the lab for you.
​
What happens if my hormone levels are too high or too low?
Reassuringly, Eden has a dual-level safety mechanism in place. Should any critical issues with your test results be seen, you will be contacted by phone right away so you know to seek emergency care. Thankfully, this is extremely rare!
